Musquodoboit Harbour — 'Musgo' to locals — is the largest community on HRM's Eastern Shore and serves as the gateway to the wider Marine Drive scenic route. Sitting about 45 minutes east of Dartmouth, the community wraps around the point where the Musquodoboit River empties into the harbour, creating a setting that is quintessentially Maritime: fishing boats, working wharves, and a coastal village atmosphere that has not been overtaken by tourism or suburban development.

The Marine Drive is the community's most significant tourism asset. This scenic driving route runs along Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore from Halifax to the Canso Causeway, and Musquodoboit Harbour is the first major stop for travellers heading east. Road-trippers and touring cyclists pass through regularly during summer months, creating demand for one- and two-night stays. The Musquodoboit Railway Museum, housed in a restored 1918 train station, provides a historical attraction that anchors the village core.

The harbour and river system offer fishing, kayaking, and birding opportunities that appeal to nature-focused travellers. The surrounding area includes Martinique Beach Provincial Park — the longest sandy beach in Nova Scotia at approximately five kilometres — which draws beachgoers, birdwatchers, and nature photographers. The Musquodoboit Trailway, a rail-trail conversion, provides cycling and walking routes through the river valley.

For STR operators, Musquodoboit Harbour offers very low property costs and a market with limited competition. The demand is genuinely seasonal and modest in volume, which means this is not a market for high-frequency, high-turnover operations. Instead, it suits property owners who want to earn supplementary income from a cottage or home during the summer season, with the occasional shoulder-season booking from Marine Drive travellers.
