Visiting Oak Island
Is Oak Island open to the public?
Only on a guided tour, booked in advance. The tour operator runs no self-guided visits, since the island is an active research site, and takes no walk-ups.
When do the Oak Island tours run?
In 2026, from May 2 to October 31 on Saturdays and Sundays, leaving at 9:00 am, 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm; the 2027 dates aren’t out yet. A tour takes about two hours on the Money Pit Express, a covered, wheelchair-accessible tram, and passes the War Room set built for The Curse of Oak Island. Arrive 30 minutes before your departure.
Where do the tours start, and how far is it from Halifax?
At the Oak Island Interpretive Centre, 5 Oak Island Drive in Martin’s Point. The operator puts the island about an hour from Halifax, by Highway 103 to Exit 9 (Western Shore and Chester Basin).
Can we bring the dog?
Not on the tour: the operator allows no pets on it, service animals aside. In Chester Basin, 2 homes allow pets; each home’s pet rules and any pet fee are on its booking page.
