Hantsport is a small village on the Avon River between Windsor and Wolfville, with a rich shipbuilding heritage that shaped its character and architecture. During the 19th-century age of sail, Hantsport was one of the most productive shipbuilding centres in the Maritimes, and the legacy of that era is visible in the grand Victorian houses — former shipbuilders' homes — that line the village streets. Churchill House, a heritage museum and community centre, preserves the history of the Ezra Churchill shipbuilding dynasty and the community's maritime past.

The village sits above the Avon River, and the dramatic tidal changes — some of the most extreme in the world, driven by the Bay of Fundy — create a landscape that transforms every six hours. At high tide, the river is a broad waterway; at low tide, vast mudflats extend to the horizon. This tidal spectacle is a draw for visitors interested in natural phenomena and is particularly appealing to photographers.

Hantsport's location on Highway 1, between Windsor and Wolfville, gives it proximity to both the Annapolis Valley wine region (15 minutes to Wolfville) and the Halifax corridor (45 minutes via Highway 101). Guests can use Hantsport as a quiet base for exploring the Valley while avoiding the higher rates and busier atmosphere of Wolfville itself.

The community is small and quiet — which is both its limitation and its appeal. Hantsport does not have the restaurants, shops, or nightlife of larger Valley towns, but it offers a peaceful, heritage-rich setting that couples and older travellers find attractive. Properties with views of the river and its tidal changes have a unique selling point that no other Valley community can replicate.
